"I won't say I don't have some reservations," Inger Lint grumbles, "but you know how it is, when a Roman with a sword the size of you tells you there's a peace treaty and that you're subject to it, you take their dang word for it."

"You wouldn't want to see some kind of evidence?"
"Honestly," Inger Lint says, descending into the hatch, "you'd be surprised how rarely evidence makes a difference to what a sword does to you."

Avi considers this wisdom for a moment before entering the hatch, closing the metal lid behind her with a loud THUNK sound, which is the sound we all know a hatch makes.
