Descending into the cave does not grant Avi any immediate answers. There's still only the cave, the hatch, the ladder, the small, lumpy figure she's following, and the light at the other end of the cave.

Avi stays close to the wall, hoping, though she knows she won't, to blend in to the rocky texture, should the person she's following choose to look back. But they won't.

And neither will Avi.
