You know, for a long time in my head this story had Annie in it, but she never really had anything to do in it but ask questions like this. Making it Mayor Nynke’s first real outing instead adds a little spice to it, I feel like.

On the beach, looking out towards the Lighthouse, Avi and Mayor Nynke, now wearing a dark grey jacket, prepare to board a small wooden rowboat.
“We’re going to the Lighthouse? What’s at the Lighthouse?”
“Okay,” Avi says, “I really have to ask. Did the Old Mayor just never tell you anything, or were you just not paying attention. Because the Old Mayor, he knew about the Domes, he knew about the Lighthouse. These aren’t even secrets, half the Island knows.”
In the rowboat, they continue. “Avi, I... I was at that office to do my job. It didn’t involve a lot of Domes.”
“Nynke, at this point I’m really just trying to figure out which parts of this we need to prepare you for. How are you with pressurised tube-based high-speed travel?”
